The Jealous Curator: had ik dat maar bedacht. Maar dat had helemaal niet gekund aangezien ik geen kunstkenner ben. Ik ben slechts kunstliefhebber. Toch ben ik lichtelijk jaloers op dit blog van Danielle Krysa, die er werk van maakt (hedendaagse) kunst te tonen waar ze zelf, als kunstenaar en kenner, jaloers op is. Van die kunst waarvan je denkt: ‘had ik dat maar bedacht.’

Het is elke keer weer een verrassing waar Danielle jaloers op is, maar het valt me steeds vaker op dat haar smaak – of jaloezie – mij enorm bevalt. Negen van de tien keer denk ik ook: had ik dat maar bedacht. Kunst wordt overigens breed opgevat; je ziet fotografie, borduursels, illustraties, schilderijen, design, tekeningen, installaties, schetsen… en zoveel meer.

Oh, the flora n’ fauna! These gorgeous nature-filled watercolor groupings are the work of American artist Michelle Morin.

I write about embroidery and crochet a lot, mainly for two reasons. No.1, I am in complete awe of anyone that can master these techniques. No.2, I absolutely love it when an artist is able to push this once “craft-only” medium into the world of fine art.

Jaloers op Amy Friend. 

I wrote about Canadian photographer Amy Friend just over a year ago. It was her gorgeous series, titled Dare alla Luce, that took my breath away. Amy has had a zillion people ask her to make prints from the series… and she listened! As of this very moment, the four images shown above are available in her brand new Etsy shop…  for $35 each!

Hm… amazing how a little floral patterning can soften an image. Like a rocky landscape, or a black & white portrait.

Jaloers op Binka Rigava.

Wow. Stunning, detailed, beautifully-executed beadwork over portraits, photographed by Alfred Cheney Johnston, of actresses from the 20′s and 30′s. Latvian bead-artist Binka Rigava was recently commissioned to create these pieces for the newly remodeled restaurant & bar at at Hotel Monteleone, in New Orleans’ historic French quarter.
